Here it is… A new video for a new song off of a new album. “Walking In Milwaukee” is about what you think it’s about man. Just being a kid lost in the darkness trying to figure it out. I made the video with my buddy Jack Packard and I think it turned out great. Rap Rock selfie stick go pro madness, I am a man of the modern world no doubt. Fuck with the THUNDER ZONE. We are on a mission here. Put the puzzle pieces together then just fucking smash that fucking puzzle because you have no idea what the fuck is going on! I don’t know either man. I don’t know either!
Premiered the video with the nice folks at THE FADER today, which you can check out right here. The new record is called HEARTLAND 99 and it comes out June 9th on THUNDER ZONE, with vinyl to follow on VINYL INTERNATIONAL. I’m excited about it and I’m excited to be making music in general. Change your life, it’s never too late. Keep running.
Tonight in New York City. By my calculation the 10th ever THUNDER ZONE KICKBACK. We just keep kickin’ back! We can’t stop kicking back. This month it’s a bit of an RIP Letterman edition, maybe we’ll put on the show if we can figure out how to do that. Regardless, there will be some classic Letterman footage “In The Mix” on the legendary Happy Fun Hideaway TV screens all night along with classic zone-related content.
Plus we got THUNDER ZONE legend SCHWARZ showing up late night style and throwing down a very special, very rare CHOPPED AND SCREWED SET. Damn! Gonna be sick. Check out the facebook event below. Thunder Zone: the spazzed-out underdogs just hanging on to their sanity. Join us.
The newest issue of New York City culture magazine SEX is up now, and I had the pleasure of interviewing not one but two of my favorite people, friends, and artists. I’m talking B L A C K I E ALL CAPS WITH SPACES and DOUGGPOUND. Both are legendary lifers who have influenced and inspired many and got a lot of stories to tell. It felt so good to talk to them about life and creativity for SEX MAGAZINE. Sick!
Check out the interviews right here alongside a lot of other great pieces. I hope they inspire you to keep living and fighting for you dreams no matter what.
A little while ago (via IMPOSE MAGAZINE), I officially announced my new record called HEARTLAND 99 and shared a song of the same name. I’m really excited about this one, it comes out in June and it is a continuation of the neverending American Pop Music puzzle that is JUICEBOXXX and a blown out slice of NU AMERICANA/RAP ROCK for kids of all ages to freak out to. I got more videos and all that shit on deck. Oh yeah, it’s coming out on my own label THUNDER ZONE, with a limited vinyl issue from the legendary label VINYL INTERNATIONAL (home to releases from Ariel Pink and Geneva Jacuzzi).
My influences on HEARTLAND 99 run from Springsteen and Suicide to Beastie Boys and Public Enemy. Other things I was thinking about: going to noise shows as a teenager, listening to classic rock radio, Funkmaster Flex, Big Black, “Born Slippy,” Ultramganetic MC’s, The Modern Lovers, all that shit. So much shit. I wish I could just do something else but I have to be myself and that means fucking walking down the road most people are smart enough not to travel.
I don’t fuckin’ know man, I’m writing so many songs that I just wanna get this one out for you to hear and then start making more. Welcome to the Thunder Zone, where am I going? I don’t fucking know. Hide under the covers sometimes but don’t die man. Hit the highway, who gives a fuck. HEARTLAND 99. Check a song below.
May 16th in New York City we are going all the way. Thunder Zone/Nina Pop legend SCWHARZ (along with Mark Brown) throws a monthly party at a bar in Bed Stuy called ONE LAST SHAG and guess what my dudes? This month it is the fucking THUNDER ZONE TAKEOVER. What does that mean? Who knows. But here is a guess: energy drinks, “custom visuals,” and of course, freaked out DJ sets of American Music from some of the game’s unsung heroes: JUICEBOXXX, DJ GEORGE COSTANZA, SHAMS, SCHWARZ AND MARK BROWN.
THUNDER ZONE is my pop culture/music/beverage/clothing/whatever I feel like label and I’m excited to partner with some true American ragers for a night of insanity. So come out, get in your car, “do a road trip,” whatever man. Just keep the dream alive. Keep fighting. Even when it is so dark that you don’t know what to do and everybody is laughing in your fucking face because you are goddamn 28-year-old loser, keep fighting.
That’s right people! Boxxx is back on the road. It’s a mini-tour! What the fuck do you want me to say? Just trying to keep moving forward despite all the darkness and all the confusion and all the self-hate. To play rock and roll music on the road for strangers, because sometimes that feels like the only thing that makes sense in this fucked up world.
I’m playing with some great bands and I’ll be in a rental mini-van. Got THE THUNDER ZONE BAND behind me so I’m not alone. We are not alone. Fuck it. Enter The Thunder Zone.
I hope to see you at the rock and roll gig.
APRIL 29-DETROIT ST. ANDREW’S HALL (WITH ANDREW WK)
APRIL 30-TORONTO DOUBLE DOUBLE LAND (WITH MAN MADE HILL AND CERAMIC TL)
MAY 1-NYC TRANS PECOS (WITH EXTREME ANIMALS, HARIBO, SEF, AND SEPTIC SUNDAY SOUNDSYSTEM)
Another month… Another THUNDER ZONE KICKBACK. The kickback stays alive and fights on for another edition of chilled out insanity at everyone’s favorite Bushwick bar HAPPY FUN HIDEAWAY. Tonight we are kicking it Spring Break style with special guest Alex Drewchin aka EARTHEATER aka KING CONCUBINE aka member of unstoppable force GUARDIAN ALIEN… Doing a DJ set. I don’t know what she’s gonna play but I bet it’s gonna be sick! Watch an Eartheater video below.
And, as always custom Thunder Zone visuals. And, as always: ENERGY DRINK GIVEAWAYS. And, as always: stay alive, never surrender, fuck all the bullshit. Rock and roll will save your life. There’s no turning back.
I’m really siked to present to you the newest in a long line of freaked out JUICEBOXXX music videos… “Like A Maniac,” shot on 16mm film at a house in Jersey and directed by my friend Guy Kozak. It is off of a new JB record called “Heartland 99″ that comes out June 9th on my own label THUNDER ZONE in collaboration with the great label VINYL INTERNATIONAL. I can’t wait for you to hear it. I can’t wait to make more records and just keep doing this for whatever fucked up reason.
In this life, it’s hard to know what the fuck to do. I’ve been running for a long time and I see no end in sight. Stay positive and stay alive. Get out of the darkness and try again. Eat some shitty fast food if you need to. Fuck it, ENTER THE THUNDER ZONE.
This Friday in New York City, I will be doing a real boy DJ SET at the esteemed BROKE CITY party alongside some friends and real boy djs… I’m talking TEENGIRL FANTASY and DUBBEL DUTCH! Plus the Broke City residents, no doubt. Should be a good night of underground EDM in colonial Bushwick! Come out to the rave. FACEBOOK EVENT.
Also, I got a new video “dropping” on Thursday that I’m really excited about. Fuck it, check out a screenshot below and stay so deep in the THUNDER ZONE that you have no choice but to keep going and going and going until you find that light in the night. Respect is due to all the American musicians who blazed this fucked up path. Keep running.
The final chapter in the LIL UGLY MANE/THUNDER ZONE saga is here and it is sick. Really sick. Super “inside baseball” goofy graphix design from Brian Blomerth, if you know you know. If you don’t? Just enjoy it for what it: an amazing graphic that serves as an icon for all you ragers out there. Wear it loud and proud and represent for UGLY MANE and THUNDER ZONE as you fuckin’ pound the pavement and go on a Slurpee run at your local 7-11. Freaked out American culture for all the losers and weirdos… This is Thunder Zone. No rules, no limits. No fear.
