Got a raging week in the Heartland on deck. Over the next 5 days I will be doing a lot of DJ sets and one live performance as part of the East Side Music Tour. Especially siked about my DJ set in Chicago at Total Therapy with TEEN WITCH, DAI BURGER and more. So if you are in the Midwest make the trek and ENTER THE THUNDER ZONE because sometimes man this music shit is all we got. I’m typing this as I hang out at a college radio station at 4 AM waiting to do a guest DJ mix so you know that THIS IS NOT A GODDAMN GAME.
I am proud to be working with Vellejo, CA rapper ISSUE on a new shirt for my label THUNDER ZONE. ISSUE is the teenage son of the legendary Bay Area rapper E-40 and has a fresh and wild style all his own. We first collaborated together back in 2011 on a track so there is history here and I couldn’t be happier to have him officially become a part of the no-rules THUNDER ZONE label and catalog.
The shirt is designed by my good friends 333 BOYZ and is double sided. The front features two themes integral to ISSUE‘s personal mythology: tea and cars. The back keeps things fresh in that classic jersey style. Together it is one strong look and something for the club and the 7-11. ISSUE‘s new release is called “LIQUID WISDOM” and is out now on GREEDHEAD, the label created by Heems of Das Racist. Purchase the ISSUE/THUNDER ZONE shirt RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW.
Siked to be playing a show with my old friends SPANK ROCK and LIL INTERNET this Saturday at CAMEO GALLERY in BROOKLYN, NY. I first met Spank Rock in the summer of 2005 on tour at SPACE 1026 in Philly. Since then, we have raged many shows and parties together and even did a song for my 2010 mixtape THUNDER ZONE VOLUME ONE.
I first met Lil Internet in January 2007 when I played his old party HEARTTHROB in Boston. One of my favorite DJ’s and Twitter users, I was so excited to see him land a video on the new BEYONCE ALBUM a few months ago. I’m a true fan of both artists and I know it’s going to be a slamming night of American Music insanity. As always, I will be performing alongside THE THUNDER ZONE BAND.
My no-rules American Pop Music and Culture label THUNDER ZONE continues to deliver the sick shit. This time it comes in the form of a limited edition HACKY SACK. I’m really excited to put the catalog number TZ017 on this and push it out there for all you kids of all ages to enjoy and collect. Put it on your shelf alongside your THUNDER ZONE ENERGY DRINK or actually get dirty and play it in the quad while you blast Sublime. It doesn’t really matter, you gotta do what you feel and as always… ENTER THE THUNDER ZONE.
Finally after a long wait comes the last video in the “I Don’t Wanna Go Into The Darkness” saga. But don’t worry kids, we are going out BIG DAWG style. I teamed up with an all-star cast of ragers including director Vice Cooler (XBXRX/Hawnay Troof… videos for Peaches, Feist and more) and actor Andre Hyland AKA Jesse Miller, fresh off of his short film’s successful run at the Sundance Film Festival.
From the instant I saw Jesse Miller I was drawn to him. Rarely does a character balance truth and humor in a way that cuts so deeply to the core of a timeless American feeling. That distinctive heartland parking lot insanity vibe that a lot of Andre’s work covers felt like the perfect companion to “Thunder Jam #8,” which is perhaps the most emotional Thunder Jam yet. And when I got my buddy Vice Cooler on board to direct, I knew it was gonna be sick.
The end result is something that I hope is real and funny and maybe just a little bit touching. Plus I get to freak out and plug my Energy Drink. It is a classic “everyone wins” style situation. This song is dedicated to all those kids out there with nothing to do but drive around and hold onto their dreams. So fuckin’ crack a bev and enjoy the ride. This is the THUNDER ZONE people!
On Tuesday January 27th I went on my friend Nat Roe‘s WFMU radio show from Midnight to 3 AM for 3 hours of American dirtstyle mayhem. Things got very loose and free and if you ask me that’s the way it should be when you are kicking it “left of the dial”. After the show, we slept over at WFMU and then did it again. That morning session is for an upcoming WFMU fundraiser. Check out the nighttime show right here right now.
2013 was a fucked up year but that’s OK because I’m still alive and rocking deep in the THUNDER ZONE. 2K13 saw me spending time on both coasts and in the heartland, running like a chicken with his head cut off just trying to find something that I can call my own in this crazy place that we call the USA. Despite all the freaking out and breaking down, I kept on pumping out the sickest shit possible, all in the name of the THUNDER ZONE. And that is positive. “After the jump” let us get deeper into the Nu-American insanity that was JUICEBOXXX and THUNDER ZONE in 2013.
#45-50 IN REVERSE ORDER “AFTER THE JUMP”
