Tonight in New York City we got a rager brewing at the mysterious new spot Honey’s
, which exists in an industrial zone of Bushwick and is known by heads as a place to get mead… They brew that shit in the back room of their bar. That very back zone also does gigs on occasion and tonight it is a sick one: BOXXX
throwing down alongside my favorites and yours: NYC damaged punks HARIBO
. Best band in the city.
Also playing are artist legends Jamian JV and Billy Grant, Raxtsfk and Gavin Riley from Philly. The whole thing is set up by the wrecking crew known only as BOBO. And if that’s fucking not enough, you got shit for sale from (THUNDER ZONE affiliate) Nick DeMarco as well as Alis Atwell and Lindsay Kovnat. So come out on a Wednesday to see some true East Coast freakout heroes lose their minds in a pleasant backroom situation. I’ll be there, with the band. Doing my best to stay positive in this f****d up USA.
That’s right people, got some gigs coming up in New York City, where I guess I live, for the moment. Some good ones no doubt, with some great bands. Honestly I’m really siked about all four of these shows, they represent a nice cross-section of East Coast insanity activities. And this is not even to begin to mention my lil SXSW (god help us all) tour popping off in March… Stay tuned for more info on that. They are going to shit on all of your dreams but you gotta keep running.

That’s right people! Boxxx is back on the road. It’s a mini-tour!
What the fuck do you want me to say? Just trying to keep moving forward despite all the darkness and all the confusion and all the self-hate. To play rock and roll music on the road for strangers, because sometimes that feels like the only thing that makes sense in this fucked up world.
I’m playing with some great bands and I’ll be in a rental mini-van. Got THE THUNDER ZONE BAND behind me so I’m not alone. We are not alone. Fuck it. Enter The Thunder Zone.
I hope to see you at the rock and roll gig.
APRIL 29-DETROIT ST. ANDREW’S HALL (WITH ANDREW WK)
APRIL 30-TORONTO DOUBLE DOUBLE LAND (WITH MAN MADE HILL AND CERAMIC TL)
MAY 1-NYC TRANS PECOS (WITH EXTREME ANIMALS, HARIBO, SEF, AND SEPTIC SUNDAY SOUNDSYSTEM)
IT’S A MINI-TOUR!
New York City has a lot of awful rock bands and that is a gooddamn fact. The ratio between good bands and bad bands in this city is probably as bad as it’s ever been, and don’t even get me started about “Brooklyn.” But fuck it, there is still some good shit kicking around. Not everyone is doing the “Robert Hood Thru A Fuzz Pedal” thing, some motherfuckers are still using guitars! Check it out.
Haribo are a fully singular power trio that I never get tired of going to see play live. Wasted-style shredder guitar combined with blown-out drum pad insanity, plus Raúl De Nieves freaking out on top of all of that? This band is so sick!
Haribo operate within a classic tradition of NYC performance/art-punk bands but sound like no one else. Bow down!
SHOW ME THE BODY
Show Me The Body are some serious young guns coming into the mix with an ill style all their own. You might look at me like I’m fucking crazy when I say “Lungfish meets Rage Against The Machine with a goddamn banjo” but I’m not playing around!
This is some serious Nu Americana, people! Don’t sleep on these kids, I played with them last Saturday and they got a sick pit going from the jump. Show Me The Body!
You already know about the legendary Extreme Animals, but over the past few years they have morphed from their signature Rainbow Rock style into something tougher. Southern Rap and Nu-Metal come together with some freaked out video projections to create a band that must be reckoned with.
When I call these freaks the NEGATIVLAND FOR THE ENERGY DRINK GENERATION, I am not playing around. Insanely underrated band, for fans of shredding guitars and relevant kulture jamming.
HANK WOOD & THE HAMMERHEADS
Hank Wood & The Hammerheads are a Punk Rock band that I can believe in. Garage’d out farfisa action whips head-on with some seriously driving “Capitol P Punk” but that’s not it. Yeah man, you ARE hearing some insanely twisted “aux percussion” sitting sick “in the mix,” taking everything to the next level.
This band is so banging! Something to unite a lot of different tribes and just an overall “great punk band” suitable for listening in the past, present and future.
