The newest release on Thunder Zone
is one that I am extremely proud of. A true meeting of the minds. American insanity 2016 style. The beat goes on. Let me lay it down for you: two new songs by LA-via-BMORE duo ODWALLA88
featuring a remix from frequent Zone collaborator and cult rap legend LIL UGLY MANE
and art from Max Eisenberg aka DJ DOG DICK
This is an important release and there is a lot to say (to start, ODWALLA88 are a game changing American punk band, and the remix and artwork are just insane kickers that will blow some minds… only on THUNDER ZONE) but the most important thing of all is that you support the goddamn Thunder Zone and buy a few copies RIGHT HERE. It comes with a sticker insert and is limited to 250 hand numbered copies. Please keep going, kids. The world is a fucked up ball of darkness but we all gotta try our best to stay positive and find some sort of meaning.
Brand new video from NU AMERICANA
force of nature DJ DOG DICK
for his song “Why’s A Dog?” Easily my favorite Dog Dick video yet, this one was supposedly influenced by the classic Phil Collins clip for “In The Air Tonight,” but obviously things got taken into a new arena. The end result is the kind of next level Americana that Dog Dick is infamous for and some American freakout insanity that the kids can believe in. Respect to the director Joe Skinner, respect to Dog Dick. You gotta be yourself! Just be yourself! The Life Stains is out now on HOSS
TODAY IS MY FRIEND MAX EISNEBERG’S BIRTHDAY. MAX MAKES MUSIC UNDER THE NAME DJ DOG DICK
AND HAS BEEN DOING SO FOR A LONG TIME. HIS FREAKED OUT MIX OF RAP, POP AND NOISE PREDATES MOST AND IS CONSTANTLY EVOLVING. I MET HIM IN THE SUMMER OF 2005 AND WE TOURED TOGETHER IN THE FALL OF 2008. MAX’S LONG-AWAITED DEBUT RECORD “THE LIFE STAINS” CAME OUT A FEW WEEKS AGO ON HOSS RECORDS
AND IT IS A REALLY EXCITING COLLECTION OF NEW AMERICAN MUSIC.
I AM NOT GOING TO LIE, I APPROACHED THIS RELEASE WITH A BIT OF TREPIDATION. I HEARD RUMORS THAT THE RECORD WAS LESS IN LINE WITH THE CLASSIC BLOWN OUT “WOLF EYES MEETS NO LIMIT” DOG DICK STYLE AND CLOSER TO SOME SORT OF OUTSIDER POP CROSSOVER MOVE. BUT THEN I SAT DOWN AND ACTUALLY LISTENED TO THE RECORD. I’M LISTENING TO IT AS WE SPEAK. NOT ONLY DOES IT RETAIN THE CLASSIC SPIRIT OF DOG DICK, BUT IT FLESHES OUT THE STORY.
MAX’S MUSICAL HISTORY IS REALLY REPRESENTED HERE, BOTH MUSICALLY AND SONICALLY. HIP HOP, NOISE AND WEIRDO POP COME TOGETHER TO CREATE WHAT I’VE BEEN CALLING NU AMERICANA, WHICH IS LESS OF A GENRE AND MORE OF A FEELING. DOG DICK UNDERSTANDS THAT RAP MUSIC IS AMERICAN MUSIC AND THAT IT BELONGS IN THE MIX WITH ALL THE OTHER GREAT AMERICAN MUSICS, PAST AND PRESENT. THIS INCLUDES STYLES BOTH ACCESSIBLE AND FRINGE. “THE LIFE STAINS” IS A SINGULAR IN THE BEST WAY.
